Koley

I went to Cleveland on Monday for a team meeting as well as a visit for Koley. The meeting went well but was really just a review of the last 6 years of his health history and concerns. I did get to meet his new psychologist and speak with him for a brief time. He is positive in the fact that he is comfortable giving Koley a bi-polar diagnosis. We have "treated" him that way for a couple of years but due to his age never been given a diagnosis. He is going to try a couple of different combinations of meds and see what happens. I have a great deal of respect for Koley's dr.s and the team that we work with now but I do like the idea of a fresh set of eyes on the case. We so want him healthy and home.

I was able to take him off campus for the first time since his admittance. He asked to go to Target (that's the shopper in him!) We got markers, pencils and of course he conned me into a new basketball. I can hardly say no. We then went to get his haircut. It was so long and he looks super handsome now! He choose Cheesecake Factory for dinner and wanted to go to the bookstore and before we knew it our time was up. Leaving sucks. Downright sucks!

I was a great visit and I so enjoyed our time alone.

Erin,
It sounds like a great trip. And a diagnosis, even if you had that idea before, must be a relief. My heart goes out to you and your family.

I'm sorry you had to leave him, but I'm glad that you had such a wonderful visit with your son.

I've read your story since you visited my blog. My heart goes out to you. My oldest (my son) also has behavioral problems - mostly associated with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Although nothing as severe as you've experienced, I understand how difficult it is to have a child with a problem you can't see. Mental illness is far more difficult for others to understand than physical illness (especially other parents!)
I hope for the best outcome for all of you and that Koley can be home with you soon - I can't imagine how hard it is to have to leave him. Best wishes to you all!
